  • Summer is around the corner, and everyone is going hair crazy!

Summer is around the corner, and everyone is going hair crazy! What’s summer without soft, flowing locks or a sleek and shiny hairstyle?  Here are some featured salon products that’s sure to get you out and about while showing off your new ‘do!

One of my absolute favorite brands right now is Pureology hair products. Not only do they feature a wide range of products for multiple hair problems and hair styles, but their products are also sulfate free! If you’re not aware of the “no sulfates” movement, here’s a quick lowdown: Sulfates are BAD for your hair. And if you have dry, brittle, damaged hair or curly hair, sulfates are even worse! Sulfates became popular in shampoos because they give your hair that “squeaky clean” feeling. Unfortunately, it also removes too much moisture (which is needed for curly hair) and if your hair has been chemically colored, it strips the shine and color from your hair, resulting in a very dull look.

  • The Best Product for Your Hair

Because everyone’s hair is different, it can be difficult to pick the right product for your hair. Simple things like hair length can change the type of style and products you should use. These tips are meant to help you purchase the most suitable products for your hair.

Hair spray may have been big in the 1980s, but it is still very useful today, usually in small amounts. It is best used when using a curling iron or curlers, both when the hair is curled and after it has been released from the iron or curlers. To avoid that sticky, helmet look, spray from a distance and keep the amount to a minimum. If you have naturally curly hair, hair spray is not the best product to reduce or maintain the curls. Hair spray adds a bit of extra hold but is not good for more in depth work.

Mousse is similar to hair spray. It adds a little extra help to keeping the hair in place, but is not much good for more serious styling. It does have the advantage of blending in better and looking a little more natural. For best results, rub the mousse between your hands before applying and add it when your hair is slightly damp.

Pomade is best known as a way to make hair spiky. It is not meant to look natural and works very well to hold hair in one place for a longer period of time. The cream-based pomades provide a softer look and are good for shorter hair to make it a little livelier. Like mousse, it is best if applied after rubbing it between your hands to give it a more even distribution. It is also a good method for taming frizzier hair. When done, you may want to apply a little hair spray or rumple your hair for a more realistic look.

Like pomade, gel is good for a longer, stronger hold; however, it is a bit stickier. When applied to damp hair, gel can make your hair retain a bit of the freshly wet look without being greasy like pomade. It is also an excellent manager of frizzy hair. Gel is also recommended for men who want a spiky look. To smooth fine hair or calm curly hair, consider glaze. It works like gel, but can be applied wet or dry for the same look.

In the end it is best to know your hair type and to try different things to figure out what works best in your hair. Avoid damaging your hair by making it heavy. And remember, you are an individual, what works for you may not work for everyone else.

  • The Right Hair Spray for Your Hair

There are a plethora of different hair sprays out there, making it more difficult to decide which one is right for your hair. Since everyone is different, you probably won’t get the same results as your friends with the same brand of hair spray. To help you decide what is best, here are a couple of hair product definitions and guidelines.

Sprays marketed as flexible will make your hair just that, flexible. They are not meant to keep your hair from moving; they will give your hair a bit more body and keep the strands more inline with each other. If you are looking for something to keep your hair in place, try the strong and extra strength sprays. If you don’t want your hair to move, your best bet is the maximum or ultra strength sprays or a freeze hair spray. These are the strongest and will hold a style considerably longer than the other, making them ideal for fancy dinner parties or prom.

There are also different types of application methods. Some hair sprays can be applied consistently over your hair, while some are applied one squirt at a time, giving you better control over the amount of spray you are using. Also pay attention to the targeted hair type for each spray; the ones designed for fine hair are geared more toward holding hair with very little body. If you would like a hair spray with a little extra aroma, several different brands have developed fragrant scents for their hair spray. There are even some hair sprays designed for summer when UV rays are strongest and humidity is most punishing on hair. Of course, one of the most important factors is the way hair spray makes your hair feel. Many of them have been developed so that they are not sticky after application, which will keep your hair softer to the touch.

  • The best Hair Products to maintain and enhance Curls

The best hair products for curls can help to lock in waves that are beautiful and need minimum styling or maintenance.

If you’re seeking the ideal curly hair products, you can opt for shampoos, conditioners, and hairstyling tools that have been specifically created to maintain silkiness and bounce without making your hair dull and breakable.

Curls are of two types, viz. those we like to improve and hold and those we want to control, straighten or level.  Shampoos designed for curly hair utilize Panthenol, proteins and plant extracts to reconstruct the protein bonds developed by the amino acids.  These protein bonds can be delinked and restructured by application of heat, chemical reactions and specifically made shampoos/conditioners.

Most hair cleansers are designed to provide sufficient cleansing and conditioning; the products designed to maintain the curls are formulated with active ingredients like wheat, corn or rice proteins to coat the hair shaft to render a better sheen or to penetrate up to the root and cortex to provide greater strength and hold.

Hair strength is necessary to maintain tight or large waves.  While hairsprays, gels and mousse are beneficial to control of a hairstyle, environmental factors such as heat and humidity are detrimental.  Using shampoos and conditioners created to strengthen the hair and provide a soft yet lasting hold, can enhance the appearance of curls, and add sheen that has been stripped by excessive heat during hairstyling or by chemical treatments.

Hair products containing Aloe, Chamomile, Collagen and Hydrolyzed Keratin have been proven effective in maintaining the  strength of curls without pulling down the hairstyle, and this is particularly helpful for locks of longer length.  The gentle surfactants present in such products protect the hair and prevent damage.  Plant extracts help faster hair growth and promote re-growth to obtain distinctive curls and a soft hold.
